Download Your World from Aternos

Outgrown your free Aternos server? Getting your world out is genuinely easy, Aternos has a dedicated download page for exactly this.

Aternos themselves warn that keeping a copy of your world is your responsibility and that data loss is always possible, so even if you are not moving today, downloading a backup now is a good idea.

Step 1 - Open the Worlds page

Log in at aternos.org and go to the Worlds page at aternos.org/worlds/.

Aternos Worlds page

Step 2 - Download

Select your world and click Download. A zip file downloads automatically.

Two tips from Aternos' own guidance:

  • Use a normal browser download, not a third party download manager
  • You do not need to stop the server first. Downloading works even while the server is running, and Aternos actually suggests downloading before you stop it

Paper and Spigot servers - grab all three worlds

If your Aternos server runs Paper or Spigot, the Nether and End are stored as separate world folders, and each one appears on the Worlds page separately. Download all three, the main world, the nether world, and the end world, so nothing is left behind. When you move to a new host you can upload the three folders exactly as they are.

Next step

That is all there is to it. Head to Move Your Existing Server to MCHosts to set your world up on a server that is always online.
